If you are planning on shooting skateboarding for real.. then all I can say is it isn't what you want. No using flashes during the daytime with a 1/60 sync speed. No motor drive abilities that could be useful. Image quality is pretty good, that's about all you have going for you.

Do you want to shoot Canon or Nikon...
Do you want to shoot film or digital...
Do you want to shoot with flash during the day...
Do you want to shoot sequences...
Do you have any money in your bank account...
Answer me those and I will tell you what you should look into.

Well sorry but photography is expensive and I guess you are shit out of luck. A Canon digital that shoots sequences goes for about... 2 grand. The Canon 1D or 1D MarkII are the Canon Digitals that shoot sequences at a usable rate and they will allow flash during the day.
Anything below 4 FPS is pretty useless. But if you still want a Canon digital you might look into the 300D or the 10D. The 10D is the better choice and you can get it used for about $1000 USD. Good luck with whatever you get.
Now might be the time to look into film.

Mike is right, but now you can get the canon 20D for 1500 dollars (i own it now) that can take sequences (5fps), use flash at 1/250th of a second (which i have pushed to 1/4000th- way more then enough for fill flash), and has 8 megapixels. Its a great camera if your serious abomut skateboard photography.
I say you get a good film camera, because you can get a nice eos 3, or eos 1nrs for fairly cheap, so you have some extra money to get pocket wizards (for firing external flash), a couple vivitar 285 (flashes), and a fisheye if you want one.
Just my input, I hope your enjoying photography
