I have figured out the perfect rail you can make if your short on cash...

What you do is get a Pressure treated(so it doesnt rott in the rain) 2x4 and then you take a metal angle that looks like and L with holes in it(should be 6 foot long) and screw it into the 2x4. You can put small peices of 2x4 under it to make it taller.

Note: These pieces of metal angeling will have holes on both sides. The holes are too big for screws by themselves so you will need washers. And make sure to put the screws in the side of the 2x4, not on top.

All of these things can be found at a hardware store like home depot or Lowes for about $15 U.S.

thats a wicked plan... i just sorta found these 3 long boards nailed together and then i grabbed it, waxed it up and it works really good. my friend has a big woden block with a pipe on the topp, its awesome

in woods and metals class(industrial arts, shop whatever ya wanna call it, the class ya build stuff in) out teacher is really nice and he lets all the skaters make something like a kicker, rail or something in the class. im gona make a rail in that class out of one of my pipes. and im workinging on a kicker at home, and im gona make this huge ramp as soon as i find some plywood

oh yeah, the place where all the skaters around here get their pipes is from the school or something. we find a chainlink fence thats falling apart and pull a post out of it or something

at the elementary school they put in a new chainlink fence around the whole school and that winter the snow came and it was so heavy that it bent the bence and stuff. so all ya have to do is give it a kick or 2 and ya get a nice rail(some assembly required), and some dudes stole a car and crashed it into the fence around the tennis courts at my school and it exploded. so theres a bunch of rails laying around there and stuff...

the best thing for a grind rail is to wait till night and go to a builders yard and there will always be some spare scafold lying round you and some mates grab it................. then run like hell !!

Thats cool. What about this rail I made (almost 9ft long) in about 45 mins...for about $25...

I got plans on my site for it...but you've gotta have a welding machine, or have someone do it for you...which basically everyone lives within 10 miles of someone with a welder, so ask around. If you're interested...

I got picture by picture..Anywho, I've gotta go...I just noticed a bunch of mistakes I made on the links..later.

i made sumat like that 2x4 and whenever i try to grind on it it slides out from under me ne1 got ideas?

I usually set my rail up against some grass, so it doesn't slide, but you can also get some thin rubber (Gum rubber..or the stuff they put on conveyor belts) on the bottoms...and it WON'T slide...all you'd have to worry about is the balancing part, which usually is fine.

Glad to see you guys building ramps out of whatever you have, very creative! The best thing about skating is that you can create your own thigns to skate on, you don't always have to use someone elses crap :p

Keep it up guys

I made that rail at a relatives house..which is consequently - in a rural area. I built the rail in the huge garage (not seen in picture), then set it out there, and spray painted it. There was mega sunlight, and it was nice and warm, so I set it right there in the open....that's all...just letting the paint dry.

i made a rail out of some metal shelf legs and a 6 foot long 2x4.

if i wanted to make it high i would just put some small like 6" 2x4s under each end.(they fell down a lot)

tomorrow im going to get this wood fence pole and put the metal shelf legs on it and then screw about 10 2x4s on each side stacked into it.

ill let you know how it goes.

if you have got the time and welder, build Mrocks rail, no offense to the other idea but i have one of them and it doesn't really work that well, my friend has a store bought one almost identical to Mrocks and it works like a charm, i mean, you got everything you need to build it as of instructions, you got mesurments, you got instructions, GO BUILD IT!! I am sure that no one here that builds it will be dissapointed <<unless they screw up royally;) >>

Cool idea. Me and Flip boy found a well good metal box thing and this bloke(wanker) came over and took it of us and locked behind these gates.

I will tell you this...my rail works great, but not anymore. Why? I have a habit of dropping it off our porch...which bent the leg a bit...so I need to fix that. The next plans I'm going to do, is going to be a nice somewhat, portable wood box. I am for sure going to do it...but I am not sure how long I want to make it yet..but thanks for the compliments sk8erpsycho (I took it as compliments!)...

Yeah Mrock that's the best rail I've seen around in a long time, great work man

04-18-2002, 10:56 PM
yea it was a compliment :) , do you make lots of other ramps too?

Mrock
04-19-2002, 01:19 AM
Yeah...I do make a lot of ramps, but normally quick ghetto ramps. I love making kickers..but I'm now getting into 2 different ramps/objects. The first is an all steel, stationary box. This will be sweet when done, and I will have full footage. (I am building it middle of next month, may). I'm also going to begin building a small quarter pipe (3 ft maybe)...which I will also have full documentation and instructions next month as long as it goes steady!

its a good plan but dont if you are having the 2x4 appart so it is an board with metal on it so you can setr it up on anything or even sideways you should get the metal without holes and use some real good cunstruction glue on it there will be no bumps that your wheel can hit. also 2x6 works better than 2x4 wood if you cxan get it
