I'm building a 3-foot halfpipe in my yard. If I put it on my lawn will it rot? Any suggestions on the type of wood. I hear masonite is cheap and works very well. Would it being outside destroy it? If I put waterproof on it would that kill speed for my skating. Please help.

Unless you live in the middle of a desert, DO NOT USE MASONITE. It'll come apart when it's wet. I would use a cheap plywood, and just replace it when it's gone bad.

Go to Ramps Plans/Articles on building at this site, I've got details on types of wood to use and all about general ramp surfacing.
That is also a good link ;)

DONT put it on the ground, if it's wet the wood will rot, warped, and you'll have to replace it. if i didn't have a surface that was concrete and was out of the way of the rain... i'd try and find a way to somehow suspend the ramp in the air with cinder blocks or make a couple concrete RISERS- not foundations.
hope it..... helps.
