Create some kind or giant sized halfpipe air catching machine. paint it with glitter paint and get to work.

if you had a parachute, you could jump off the ramp and open it and float down. of course you would need a special parachute.

well try and lure the air in with a big block of cheese, and then swipe at it with a garbage can. why do you want air?

LOL!! ok u guys r funny!!
But seriously to answere your question, the key to catching air on a half pipe is all about momentum!! you have to realy pump the transition as hard as you can and when you reach the top, just grap your board and hold it on to you feet!! its much easear (sp?) that it looks!! once your in the air compress your legs into your body , and stay that way until you come down past the coping , then relase and land on the transition smoothly keeping your speed to hit the other side of the half pipe!!!
once you get that down , then you can worry about late grabs and tweeking and what not!! but for now get down the basics!! and keep trying youll get it in a hot minute if you practice!!!
PEACE!!!

finally somebody actually gave advise and didnt **** around...geez
the biggest problem i encountered was the landing, start off just getting a tiny amount of air so that you can easily hit the ramp high and maintain your speed, you've gotta watch out for misjudging your landing and getting caught up on the coping

MORONS. damn, kids who posted first, least u could do is be courteous and answer the damn question at hand.....
just pump, its all timing, hit the transition and at that point, pump. pop after the transition and push board up with feet. AKA Tweak an ollie. Thats basically how to get air, ollie-wise. Im not that good at it so whatevs.

Flameboy,
all you need to do is compress your legs into your body, while turning backside in the air!! as long as you compress and watch the copping you wont hang up!! just keep your eye on the copying the whole time.. then once you see you came down past it relleas!! and stomp down on the transition hard !! let it be known who runs the half pipe(or mini ramp) in your hood!! lol
peace!!!

ive seen some tips for catching air of a pipe and it said that you do not really need to hit the tail on the pipe so much as just lifting the nose but im not sure if thats right or not. my advice to you would be start smaller, use smaller quarterpipes or mini ramps. also id think that learning how to do early grabs off the coping would get you used to being airborne off a ramp. basically what an early grab is is reaching down with your trailing hand, placing it on the toe side rail(like an indy) and doing a small pop while lifting yourself with that hand. i hope all this helps you and i apologize for my pointless replies earlier.
