i've beenskating a park and there's this funbox. i just can't seem to get much height or air off it. when i try ot ollie it, i barely go anywhere. same with my kickflips. my friend on the other hand can get lots of height and can go really far off the jumpramps. what am i doing wrong? does it have to do with the timing of the pop?

Yeah, timing is very important but another thing people do is go far to slow you really need to hit these things at full speed if you want to go far and high cause the actually slope before you pop will greatly reduce your speed.

^cheeseman is right about that one, also put your front foot up a little bit further than with a normal ollie... it seems to help somewhat with height but more with the stability when you go up the ramp and when you land.

you should pop the ollie somewhat close to the end of the ramp, but not too far from the edge. i can ollie off ramps but im not sure of the exact timing. its mainly just trial and error.

do u pop when u slow down/stop at the top?

Kick your board out a little in the middle of the ollie, (and if your not doing this already) try to get perfectly horizonal in midair

just pump around. theres no real bending knees or pop involved, just go wit' the flow.

i'm not talking about mini ramps...im talking about jump ramps, like on fun boxes and stuff...

yeh i never used to get that far. just go real fast, bend ur knees as u roll up and when ur front wheels are at the end of the slope pop and slide, while u slide, try to knee urself in the chin. u wont be able to but ull crouch. i find it easier to crouch up in the air off the angle. level out and tweak so you are ready to land rolling on the other sloping side of the funbox. ull get it soon enough, ask ur friend for tips

thanks...im gonna go again this saturday. I keep the "knee myself in the chin" thing in mind...can't go in the morning though. it gets SO hot cuz it's really freaking sunny in hong kong. Metal ramps burn. I think you could cook an egg on it or something...

Haha beats englands attempts at a park, rusting metal ramps complete with seringe landings, the whole park being on a 20 degree slant and built in the roughest area for 20 miles.

haha but doesn't england have good street spots? i'd rather skate a set over a fun box any day...

Nope, england is the home of craked and crumbling pavements, it always damp or raining. Everywhere that was half decent has skatestoppers now, they are even using under cover police at popular spots. It really does suck ass.

ouch...yeah we got caught by some undercover police too...you'd think they'd have better things to do than to stop some stupid kids skating.

metal ramps do burn, haha. When I lived in Tampa, me and my bro went to the skatepark of tampa, and he got a ton of speed on a huge quarter, wiped out- slid all the way down it and layed there for a while. Keep in mind that ramp had been sitting in the sun all day at 95 degrees..

ouch...i hate metal ramps. you're scared to bail because it burns so bad. my friend fell on his back off a burning mini ramp topless...

Who the ***** skates in an iron ramp ? That's insane man.
For the actually thread :
Go fast, commit and take a little pop and sour for how far you can go.

when i go off a launch ramp or a funbox i just ollie normally except with about 3 times more speed to get off the ground a ton higher. i put my right foot like 2 inches under the bolts and just pop as hard as i can(i ride goofy) and then i try to get the board parellel to the ground and when u land try to land evenly on both feet or else ull do like a backflip. hope thisll help
