Has anyone heard of the Code? I guess you could consider them like hardcore punk-ska. Political and heavy, but with bits of ska kinda thrown in. It's cool; I like the Code, but I don't like any other ska.

I didn't think that people still listened to ska. I went through a brief ska phase in high school -- haven't listened to it since then though.

ska?
It's a genre of music, started in the 60's in Jamaica, and had pretty much 3 "waves", each getting a more rock/punkier sound as the years progressed. It is the origin of Reggae, even though people seem to get that confused. Bands such as The Ethiopians, The Skatalites, Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, Desmond Dekker, Laurel Aitken, etc. are first wave bands/artists, and started the whole thing. Bands like The Specials, Madness, The Selector, The (English) Beat, etc. are Second Wave bands, or aka "Two Tone", and bands like Big D and the Table Kids, The Toasters, Mustard Plug, etc. are 3rd wave bands. Bands like Operation Ivy and Voodoo Glowskulls are ska-punk, which is closely related to 3rd wave ska, but not always the same. Another genre of ska is ska-core, which Im not too familiar with, but is a mixture of harcore and ska, like Link 80, Morning Glory, Choking Victim, or pretty much any Crack Steady band (not so much Leftover Crack), are examples of ska-core.

I used to love the voodoo glowskulls. that was a longtime ago -- though i just found my old op ivy tapes (yeah i said it, casette tapes).
anyways --- if you're new to ska, check out op ivy or goldfinger (even though they're more ska punk) -- those are two of my favorites. a lot of people really liked reel big fish as well -- but i don't really classify them as ska too much.

I just started listening to Catch 22 and SLM, they are amazing. I didn't like Catch 22 before because I heard Dinosaur Sounds, which was a pretty shi.tty album. I am listening to Keasbey Nihts right now, its great.
