I only know a few "old school" hardcore bands:

Minor Threat
Black Flag
DOA
Bad Brains
Earth Crisis
Champion
In My Eyes
Discharge***
Teen Idles

I haven't listened to In M Eyes, but alot of people say theyre a good hardcore band.

And Discharge is probably my favorite out of the whole group, check them out.

Those aren't hardcore, that's just regular street punk.

I was gonna comment on that. Both pretty good bands, especially the Unseen before all this shit about how we should "give up the fight", but they're not hardcore.

Lots of stuff some people named isn't hardcore, but whatever. I'm surprised no one's said NOFX yet.

NOFX is TOO core for these lists. that would be listed as black-death-thrash-meatal.

I know some hardcore kids in my town, they are really annoying, but they can be cool. They really like their hoodies and their khaki slacks and their cargo shorts and long gym socks.

i'm actually surprised that nobody called you on the beastie boys yet, trying to be all "U D0nT N0 whut H@rDc0Re iz! DEY r RAp". when if they knew what they were talking about they would know that they were actually a hahdcoah band first.

12-16-2004, 12:36 AM
Yeah, but I heard they sucked as a hardcore band. Whatever, Beastie Boys rule nomatter how bad their albums ma have been.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I made a point of putting them on there. I know they were a hardcore band, even though I've never heard their hardcore stuff, except of a cover of Minor Threat's Screaming at a Wall.

DK is not hardcore either, but they do get categorized with hardcore bands alot.

Snaker
12-16-2004, 11:55 PM
DK isn't even really punk rock, if you listen to it. It's so original, it's not in any category. Jello and the fellas made some amazing music. I just saw a Jello spoken word thing, it was real cool.

sorry for double post, but holy shit you got to see biafra do spoken word? thats kick ass man, an experience.. dead kennedys i guess was classified as 80s hardcore, i was reading this book on the american hardcore scene from the 80s and shit, and it talked about the huge gap between punk and hardcore, and now everyone kind of melts together like that. henry rollins was talking about how the hardcore kids would go kick all those kids with hawks, asses... you know like i guess back then the "hardcore do" was like shaved heads and shit of that sort, its crazy to think like back then it was so different than it is now.

.pie.
12-18-2004, 10:29 PM
By any chance were you reading "Dance Of Days"

Oh yeah and the cool thing for hardcore kids to do was to shave their heads, wear long socks and wear khakis/cargo and hoodies.

I saw Jello once, he was wearing a GWAR shirt.

Yeah, he was touring with NOFX. Was the book American Hardcore? Because I just finished Salad Days, and I'm gonna read American Hardcore next.

yeah thats the book, he checked it out at a library, but it was funny because i opened it to the page right after the cover, and i was scraping someones pipe to smoke some resin, and anyways i used the book to keep track of it all so it didnt get on the floor, and a bunch of the tar shit got all over the inside of the book. hahaha
