If you're not good on the guitar, why BOTHER to try and be in a band?!

I know most bands these days can't manage 3 chords, but really flower, come on....

Green day songs.

But they wont impress a proper musician, the only way to do that is to actually be good.

I first thought this was for real, but you must be kidding us. All your threads (some were deleted I noticed) are a parody of a wannabe wanting to be cool. How can you be serious when you ask "I want to learn to play guitar to impress people and be in a band"....I guess that's how the Beatles or Metallica started....waking up one morning, decidedto impress people with 4-powerchords songs. Learn how to play, THEN try to enter a band, not the opposite.

Joe Satriani "Flying on a Blue Dream" Super easy to learn it will take you like 5 mins...Don't let the 30 Pages of Tabs scare you its so easy.

"snowboarder" I had a guitar when I was like 9 but iv never been successful in learning it, I always GAVE UP, but I have decided I am not going to give up this time. I have always dreamt of playing the guitar it is my dream! I want an easy guitar tab to learn as that will motivate me I think! It has been my dream to be in a band for many years and also I don't what to just be in a band so I look cool, I want to so I can play my own music with my friends and also play there music! I write my own songs some people say there good, I have 3 books with my songs in, 1 is for scrap, 1 is for the finished songs and the other one is for the notes of the keyboard or guitar.
So please don't say I just want to do this to be cool this is my dream and I am not giving up until my dream is completed!

You don't have to be in a band to play other people's music.

Work yourself up some more and you'll get the ol' TB.

Tribute Band.

My First song was "One" By Creed, I learned it myself without tabs, then it was Sweet Home Alabama. try those out or another great to impress your friends and a song thats not to hard is Crazy Train by Ozzy.

I....I don't get it...why in HELL would you try to learn easy tabs TO IMPRESS PEOPLE. Who gives a shit about people? Play guitar for yourself, if you start with the mentality of learning easy things to prove something to others, you're on the wrong path.

Right first off don't start going on the net and finding tabs, actually learn, get a beginer book and go through it.

No, it's common courtesy for the owner to feed their own message.

Just get your parents to buy you one, get one from school or get one from a library.

Learning to play guitar to impress your friends and try and make it in their cool band which you will eventually find out that you are in way over your head and know nothing about whats going on.... By Mike Last.

Step 1 - Get on your bike.
Step 2 - Use it to get to the library.
Step 3 - Sign up for a FREE library card.
Step 4 - Sign out a FREE book for 2 weeks. Preferably about guitar and playing it.
Step 5 - Read it again.
Step 6 - Return said book.
Step 7 - Forget everything you just learned and look up any Green Day song.
Step 8 - Learn powercords. Then you will realize that all of the Green Day songs are powercords.
Step 9 - Keep your fingers in the same formation, just slide them up and down the fretboard while strumming.
Step 10 - Your "friends" will now think you are "cool" and good enough to fit into their band.
Step 11 - They ask you in and now you need to write your own stuff.
Step 12 - You realize you don't know any catchy hooks or how to write a song or solo yourself, you just copied other people's stuff.
Step 13 - You tell your friends you dont want to be in the band because you aren't good enough.
Step 14 - Your friends think you aren't cool because you made them think you knew what you were doing.
Step 15 - Find a new hobby in which impressing people isn't how you plan to start off.

I think the sarcasm meter hit an all time high with that post.

Honestly... learn guitar for the next 2 years before considering being in a band.

Additions to Mike Last's theory on being cool
By me

1-I beleive most good guitarists know how to spell, so start working on that point (I helped you and underlined the most obvious mistakes).
2-You will have to learn to use a bike between step 1 and 2.
3-On step 3 and 4, you will need to know how to read and write, refer to step 1 of this annex.
4-On step 4, it is not needed to choose a book on guitar playing or music in general since you want to impress people, not show them you know how to play guitar.
5-It will require a lot of humility and time to move from step 12 to 13.
6-For step 15, I suggest reading. It's easy (after you've complete my 1st step), and you won't impress anyone by doing so. Don't start writing though, you will most likely end up copying something you read.

Maybe if you could make sense they would be more impressed and let you in the band? I still don't get it. If you are good enough naturally they will take you into the band... not you impressing them with a couple songs you grabbed tabs for off the net. Go write something and learn guitar that way.

you annoy me, for some reason when i read that first post you hit my dislikepersonbone.
i play guitar...and i wanna be in a band....i started this august...and i'm sane enough to practice the basics, move on higher, another step higher, and higher and then see if i can get into a band. really, if you try to get in a band at this stage your gonna make a ****ing fool of yourself...more then you did with this thread.

An easy, and impressive song to non guitarists is most likely gonna have to be a catchy or a fast song. First to learn a fast song, you gotta practice your scales. You scales don't even have to sound good, once you get your fingers used to stretching and holding, it all comes along after practicing. Anyway an easy/basic scale is this one:

-----------------23
--------------35---
----------245------
------245----------
--235--------------
35-----------------

As foer the video your your sending, learn finger tapping then learn that one section in Van Halen's "Eruption." I'm not saying learn the whole song, because I doubt you will be able to, take part from it amd learn it and send it.

I'm pretty horrible at tabbing, and I'm not even a good guitarist (I am a drummer), so sorry.

Learn Down wit the sickness by disturbed it sounds AWESOME and is easy.

p.s.there are natural harmonics in there which are played by lightly touching the string just above the metal bar on the 5th(whichis used here) 7th and 12th frets

Yeah she tries to impress people with internet tabs and you expect her to play harmonics and drop her tuning?

http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/guitar_scales.php

Go on there, find the Blues / Pentatonic Scale. Learn it good. then you and your band can jam it over a 12 bar or chord sequence.
It will improve your lead and also help you to write solos. Also try looking at some blues solo tabs to help you get an idea with licks.
Its also worth trying 12bar proggresions and chord sequences then some riffs.
Maybe buy a guitar magasine and learn some stuff from that, they ussually have some backing tracks to play over which is useful.
Its all about practising.
