Finally someone who agrees with me, the sex pistols were not the die hard punk band everyone thinks they were, they were made like a boy band, the record producer so the chance to make money of the increasing punk scene.

IMO I hated their new album, i hate their new "image", older stuff was 10x better. They're like crossdressing assholes now.

Actually, cock sparrer is probably the most influencial oi band besides sham 69. I'd say their album "Shock Troops" is the best oi album ever. The Sex Pistols just happened to sing about things that were "shocking" but they didn't even mean their lyrics one bit, and their music just so happened to be controversial at the time. But look now, their are bands that sing about anarchy and actually mean it. Just look at Crass, they impersonated margaret thatcher and ronald reagan on a tape and made them look horrible.

didn't mean their lyrics one bit? What cuz of what rotten says now? They were right for the times. he wrote what he thought. if it was just for PR and shit they would have lasted longer. they couldnt be bothered in the end.

He wrote what he thought would get a rouse from the public, and it worked. The music and the lyrics were just lyrics and music, nothing more. No matter if Malcom McLaren created the band or not, they still released their albums on major, pop-influenced labels who released their radio hits and commercialized them in to the public. That's why they were thought of as controversial IMO.

Thats exactly the point, they were right for the times, they wouldn't of been playing that music if other bands hadn't started it off, they were made for the public who started to like punk, they wanted them to be the front of everything, punk didn't start off as this whole anarchy **** shit up, it started off as a reaction to the music which was being played at the time, people were sick of Led Zepplins long soloes and wanted something different, punk became thought of as anarchy because of what the sex pistols did, nearly everything they did was to have a bigger public appearance, like when they signed their record deal in front of Buckingham palace. IMO the Ramones are the best example of a punk band, they came to bring rock n roll back, they didn't come to be anarchists, they didn't start by calling themselves punks.

I love the Ramones. What's weird is that right when I started to read the last sentence of ^^^ your post, the Ramones just happened to start playing (my playlist is on shuffle). Weird...
