by the way, thats a crazy sick minipipe. about a month ago i made a fun box, and it was my first time making one, or any ramp of that matter. It follows the plans in ramprages "funbox 2". Im havin trouble on the ramp section "A" on how to smooth out the part where the plywood transitions to the concrete or sidewalk or watever you riding on. I've tried sanding it, but it takes ages and its not consistent. is there any way i could cut it to make the wood smoother were it transitions  right now i cant even ride on to it because its like 1 inch above the concrete. its kinda hard to explain, but i hope some of u know what im talking about. in the images it doesnt look like its and issue, but when you build it, theres no way you can get up it smoothly because its all rough and crap.

Try some thin metal from your local Lowe's or Home Depot.

Maybe if you put small blocks or shims under the frame in back it will bring the front down to meet the sidewalk.

The metal will work the best.
That's what they use at skateparks.

just get sheet metal and over lap it like 3 inches onto the ramp with the rest on the ground. or use a detour sign like i have for half of my ramps

It shouldn't be thick at all.
Should be like 1/8 inch or 1/16 inch.
And to attach it..drill out some holes the size of your screw threads but not bigger than the screw heads and then screw it down with a drill.

We've used street signs for that before, ya know like a "Yield" sign. That thickness is good.

I love that sound the metal makes when you ride across it. Ti-tink.

or the way that skatewave mini/half pipes sound. its like crack in a sidewalk only metal and when you pump in there it sounds cool

Are you suggesting that we should steal these road signs?

I would never suggest stealing anything. We used to pick up old ones behind the city roadworks building where they'd throw them away. That was along time ago, I'd imagine they recycle that stuff these days. I have seen them in second hand stores and garage/yard sales though.

snakeyes17

that's probably only a few bucks.
but you will probably need like 4 12 inch pieces or something.
Just to go Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.

Length = Width of your ramp
Width = 5 or 6 inches
Height = 1/8 inch... its just sheet metal

Should run you under $5.
Another thing we did for our ramp was that we had a special tool called a "Planer" or maybe a "Router" I believe. It was designed to cut angles on wood. We just cut a 10 degree slope at the bottom of our two layers of plywood making for a good slope leading up to the ramp. Sheet metal is far better though.

o yea...i asked em to do that at hope depot but they said they cant plane anything under 1 inch...and the woods 3/4 of an inch lol

man im already done with it and its fu**in awesome too. pull some airs off it and maybe a frontside rock and roll. yea. and i dont even need sheet metal. i checked lowes and home depot none of them have sheet metall the size i need it. so screw that. i can just ride up it without it.

yea sounds good but in my expierence usually you'll get a better launch if you cut the wood at the bottom of the ramp at a 35 degree angle to a 45 degree angle depending on what feels more comfortable

wtf?why not just use $5 rather than wasting your time stealing!

WTF??
12-03-2005, 04:46 AM
you could finish the framework about 1 inch short of where the plywoon touches the ground and then plane the ply wood, kinda hard to explain.

Yeah, always get your stuff from the trash or if it's just laying out. I've found lots of usefull wooden pallets laying around.
