Tight on cash right now. Realized I really want a longboard, but can't afford a complete. So what about buying longboard wheels (and trucks) for my skateboard? Opinions, experiences, etc.?

longboard trucks on such a small board are gonna feel really squirrely, and not too much fun. now, i mean the inverse kingpin ones (randals, grizzlies, those crappy gullwings). otherwise, wide indys, trackers, and other conventional kingpin trucks are gonna be about the same as some regular ol' trucks.
wheels? the biggest wheel you're probably gonna get away with on a skateboard without tons of riser is somewhere in the vicinity of 60mm or so. otherwise, you're gonna run the risks of epic wheelbite.
generally, if you're just looking to cruise on your skateboard, your best bet is gonna be some soft filmer wheels...autobahn all-roads, ricta clouds, bones softcores, whatever...cuz those normally come in 56mm or smaller sizes.
I see what you're saying. Unfortunately, I don't think that'll make the difference I really want. I think the wheels I have on my skateboard are already relatively soft wheels. But they're just too small and narrow to give me the kind of ride I want. It's a great skateboard, but I just want to turn it into a longboard and I guess that's just not gonna happen.
Any inexpensive longboards worth considering out there, by any chance? Links?

do you happen to have access to a drill? you could consider moving the trucks on your skateboard to the nose and tail...it'll lower the riding surface quite a bit, and if you make cutouts for wheels, you can run bigger wheels. do a google search for shlongboard...but skip the silverfishlongboarding links, that site's mostly useless.Originally Posted by Skamoe
