Plan B - Questionable
By Aronsamma
If you’re looking for a video with really smooth style and lots of hammers, just click “back” now. It’d be a waste of time to keep reading. This video is from 1992, the heyday of the technical era. This video is all about what’s possible on a skateboard, with ridiculous flip tricks that will wear out your “slow” button. The video starts out with an opening montage, showing some tricks with random non-skating clips thrown in. After a short “best-of” part of Matt Hensley, Pat Duffy’s section begins. His skating is most like street skating today. The most technical trick he has is a 360 double flip, and his biggest rail is an impressive double kink 50-50. His part ends with the infamous back lip in the rain. Overall, Duffy’s part isn’t very impressive by today’s standards, but still a good watch. A young Colin McKay is next. His part is broken into street and vert segments, and both are pretty good. Nothing is really too outstanding, but he has some cool pressure flip variations. Next up is Ryan Cabry. His most notable trick is a kickflip 360 down a set, but he does have a fierce late flip. Mini-ramp time! This segment is fun to watch; and it has some good tricks too. Danny Way even does a cab noseblunt nollie 360 out! Pure craziness. Sal Barbier. His skating is all about flatground lines, and he has some good ones, with things like backside double flips and shove it late flips. The funny part is, a few faked ones are in there too. They tried to make it look like they were switching camera angles, but it’s obviously a different attempt, considering that the other cameraman is never there in the new shot. Sean Sheffey has the best late shove its that have ever existed. He does them over gaps, in ramps, and with a bunch of variations. Very good. Rodney. Mullen. What more is there to say? Here’s a short list of some of the insanity: - Backside 360 nollie front foot flip - Frontside shove it late varial double heelflip - Impossible late varial kickflip - Triple kickflip - Backside 180 double back foot flip - Nollie backside 360 shove it late front foot flip (in a line!) - 1.5 casper flip (1.5 kickflip, catch like a casper in the air, shove out) - The shove it late 360 double underflip that everyone thinks is a 720 flip for some strange reason. Of course, this stuff isn’t the most stylish and smooth stuff around, but it’s still mind-blowing. If you’re into this sort of thing, you’ll love it. Contests, demos and skateparks are next. It’s a very original section with all kinds of tricks you’ve probably never even thought of before. The flip tricks done over hips are exceptional; such as the kickflip late shove it. Mike Carrol has the longest video part I have ever seen. It’s solid though, and I like it. It has some cool grind changes. Rick Howard’s up next. There isn’t much to talk about here, but it’s pretty good. Bails are bails. Danny Way’s part is insane. He has tricks like mctwist body varial late board varials, and generally pushed vert pretty hard. His street section is solid as well.
Bottom line: if you want to see original, technical skating at its finest, get this video as fast as possible. You won’t regret it. |
